Ahrefs Review 2026
What Ahrefs costs in USD on each tier, what the free tier covers, where AI visibility tracking costs extra, and which alternative fits a smaller budget.
Buy Lite at $129 a month when backlink and keyword data drive your work, and step up to Standard at $249 once you need 20 projects or 2,000 tracked keywords. Annual billing takes about 17% off Lite, Standard and Advanced, and Ahrefs Free covers verified sites at no cost.
The catch is AI visibility. Ahrefs sells that as a separate Brand Radar add-on from $199 a month, and the core plans track only 5 to 20 of your own AI prompts.
If AI search is your main job, a dedicated tool is the better first look. If budget is the limit, Moz Pro's $99 Standard plan undercuts Ahrefs Lite, though it is a different product with its own limits.

Cons
- Stepping up is steep: Lite to Standard adds $120 a month, and Standard to Advanced adds $200 more.
- AI tracking is thin in the core plans, with 5 tracked prompts on Lite, 10 on Standard and 20 on Advanced, and Brand Radar costs extra.
- Seats cost extra: Lite adds up to two more users at $40 a month each, and Standard adds up to five at $60 each.

Ahrefs earns its price for an SEO or content team that works with backlink and keyword data every week, and Lite is the first paid tier with more than one project.
Its pitch is data depth: the homepage claims 41.9B keywords tracked, and the backlink tools sit at the core of the product.
The buying decision is less about whether the data is good and more about which tier your project count, keyword count and crawl volume need, and whether AI visibility tracking belongs on the same invoice.
Toolradar data: Ahrefs holds a 4.5 out of 5 rating across 713 reviews, inside a set of 253 SEO tools we evaluated, per its directory profile and the SEO tools ranking.
Methodology: every USD price and plan limit here was checked on Ahrefs' pricing page on October 10, 2026, in the USD view.
The alternatives were checked the same day on their own pricing pages.
Our rating and tool count come from Toolradar, the software directory we run. This is a pricing and spec review. We did not run Ahrefs on live sites, so the verdict rests on what the vendor publishes, not on a hands-on test.
What is Ahrefs?
Ahrefs is an SEO suite built around three core tools: Site Explorer, which pulls the backlinks and organic keywords of any domain, Keywords Explorer for search volume and difficulty, and Site Audit for technical crawls.
Rank Tracker, Content Explorer and a Brand Radar add-on for AI visibility sit on top.
Ahrefs also runs Ahrefs Free, a separate free tier for sites you verify.
The product differs from a general marketing suite in one way that matters for buying.
The keyword and backlink data is the core, not a side feature, and the crawl and tracking limits are written per plan.
The tier you pick sets how much of the index you can use each month, so a team that wants only a rank tracker and an audit pays for backlink depth it may never open.
How Ahrefs works
A typical research week starts in Site Explorer, where you pull a competitor's referring domains and top pages, then moves to Keywords Explorer to size the topics those pages rank for.
Rank Tracker updates weekly on every plan, so it suits a monthly reporting rhythm rather than daily rank watching.
Site Audit spends crawl credits, and that is where the plan limits bite. Lite includes 100,000 crawl credits a month, Standard 500,000 and Advanced 1.5 million.
On the free tier, each verified site gets its own monthly crawl allowance, which covers a periodic audit of a smaller site.
Competitor domains you have not verified need a paid plan.
The project and keyword caps are the harder constraint: Lite stops at 5 projects, so an agency with ten clients outgrows Lite before it runs out of crawl credits.

Ahrefs pricing
Prices here were checked on Ahrefs' pricing page in USD on October 10, 2026. Monthly billing is the base figure.
Annual billing on Lite, Standard and Advanced comes to $1,290, $2,490 and $4,490 a year, about 17% off the monthly rate.
Enterprise is listed at $1,499 a month with personalized limits and data exports, and the Brand Radar AI add-on sits on top of any plan.
Seats are the second cost.
Lite includes one user and adds up to two more at $40 a month each. Standard includes one user and adds up to five more at $60 a month each. For the plan-by-plan table and the credit math, read our Ahrefs pricing breakdown.
The step-ups are steep.
Moving from Lite to Standard adds $120 a month, and Standard to Advanced adds $200 more. If Lite covers your project and keyword count, the next tier is hard to justify.

Who Ahrefs is for
Ahrefs fits an SEO or content team that works with backlink and keyword data every week and manages more than one site or client.
Lite covers a single brand with a modest keyword list.
Standard suits an agency with up to 20 projects, and Advanced is for teams that run 50 projects or very large keyword sets.
Skip it if AI search monitoring is the main job. Brand Radar sits outside the core plans, so the bill climbs before you reach the data you want.
For a dedicated AI tracker, read our Peec AI review and the AI visibility tracker pricing page.
A team that only needs a rank tracker and a site audit has a cheaper route than Ahrefs Lite.
Moz Pro's Starter plan lists $49 a month, and Moz designs it for a single website.
Freelancers who only audit their own sites can start on the free tier, which covers only sites they verify, then move to Starter for one project.

Content teams that want on-page scoring next to Ahrefs should check our content optimization tools ranking, and the best AI SEO tools roundup covers the wider category.
Shoppers who want no-cost options first can compare free keyword research tools, and Semrush alternatives covers the other side of that choice.

The bottom line
Buy Ahrefs Lite when one brand or a few sites need backlink and keyword depth, and pay yearly to take the annual discount. Move to Standard once Lite's project or keyword cap is too small, and to Advanced once Standard's caps are too small.
Look elsewhere when AI visibility is the job.
Brand Radar starts at $199 a month on top of any plan, and Semrush folds AI prompt tracking into its paid tiers.
Moz Pro's Standard plan at $99 a month undercuts Ahrefs Lite if you do not need Ahrefs' index depth.
