Frase Review
What Frase costs per plan, per article and per extra seat in 2026, what its content agent and AI Visibility tracking include, and how four SEO content tools price the same work.
Frase is worth it in 2026 for a small content team that wants an agent to research, draft, publish and patch articles, not only grade them. Starter costs $39 a month billed yearly or $49 month to month, Professional $103 yearly or $129 monthly, and Scale $239 yearly or $299 monthly, read on Frase's pricing page on October 21, 2026. A 7-day trial with no credit card gives you Professional's features.
The catch is that every plan is metered by articles and audit pages, so the sticker only holds if your output fits the monthly cap. Starter stops at its limit; Professional and Scale can keep going on optional pay-as-you-go at a few dollars an article.

Pros
- The agent can draft and publish to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix on every plan, Starter included.

- Content Guard watches 10 to 300 pages for Google decay and drafts the fix for approval.
Cons
- Article caps of 10, 40 and 100 a month mean heavy months need overage at $4 to $5 an article.
- White-label reports, a client portal and SSO need Enterprise, which is quote only.
Frase began as a content brief and optimization editor and now sells itself as a content operating system for AI search. The plan you buy is a monthly quota of finished work: articles drafted, pages audited, pages watched for decay and AI prompts tracked, with an agent that can publish to your CMS on its own if you switch it on.
That makes Frase a different purchase from Surfer or Clearscope, which mostly score drafts a writer produces. With Frase you are paying partly for production, so the right question is not "which editor grades best" but "what does one shipped article cost, and do I trust the agent to ship it".
Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 274 SEO tools as of October 20, 2026, and 47% of them are free, freemium or open source, according to its SEO tools ranking. On the Frase page, Toolradar data for October 2026 ranks Frase #10 most-listed alternative among 270 SEO tools, so buyers comparing content tools run into it often.
How we compared: every price was read on the vendor's own page on October 21, 2026: Frase pricing, Surfer pricing, Clearscope pricing, NeuronWriter pricing and Scalenut pricing. Per-article costs are our arithmetic on those list prices; we did not produce content with any of them.
What is Frase?
Frase is an SEO and GEO content platform that studies what ranks for a topic, drafts and optimizes a piece in your voice, publishes it to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix, and then monitors it. GEO here means optimizing for answers in AI assistants, and every plan scores drafts on both SEO and GEO.
Three monitoring layers sit on top, and they are what keeps an older article earning after launch. Content Guard watches published pages for Google rank and traffic decay and proposes a fix you approve. AI Visibility tracks whether ChatGPT and Google AI cite you for chosen prompts, with Perplexity added on Professional and Claude and Gemini on Scale. Frase Answers is a free on-site chat widget that collects the questions visitors ask.
Frase also runs its own hosted CMS, FraseCMS, free with any plan up to 100,000 page views a month, and an MCP server and CLI on every plan so you can drive it from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or a terminal.
How Frase works
You connect a site, pick topics or let Frase suggest them, and the agent drafts each article from the pages that rank. Publishing is your call: the agent can publish on its own for any content type once you turn that on, and Content Guard waits for your approval unless you opt in to automatic low-risk fixes.
Usage resets monthly. Starter includes 10 articles, 50 audit pages and 25 AI generations; Professional 40 articles, 250 audit pages and 100 generations; Scale 100 articles, 1,000 audit pages and 350 generations. AI generations cover extras such as idea expansions and images and are separate from the article count.
Limits behave differently by plan. Starter holds at its cap until the cycle resets or you upgrade, so it can never surprise you with a bill. Professional and Scale offer pay-as-you-go overage, off by default, billed at the end of the cycle. Upgrades are prorated immediately and downgrades apply at the next billing cycle.
Frase key features
Frase pricing
Frase publishes every price except Enterprise on its pricing page, read on October 21, 2026, and yearly billing takes 20% off the month-to-month rate. Starter covers 1 seat and 1 site, Professional 3 seats and 5 sites, and Scale 5 seats and 10 domains, with extra seats at $29 a month on the two larger plans.
Per article, the bigger plans are cheaper, if you use them. Our arithmetic on yearly prices: Starter works out to $3.90 per included article, Professional to about $2.58, and Scale to $2.39. Past the cap, Professional charges $5 per extra article, $0.50 per audit page and $0.25 per AI prompt; Scale charges $4, $0.40 and $0.20.
A 5-person team is where seats start to count. Professional covers 3 people, so two more seats bring the yearly-billed Professional plan to $161 a month, our arithmetic. Scale already includes 5 seats at a higher base, so that team pays for Scale only if it also needs more than 5 sites or 40 articles a month.
Hosting is a separate line if you use FraseCMS beyond the free tier: Basic is $19 a month for 250,000 page views and Pro $99 a month for a million, with yearly billing saving two months. Past the cap, Basic bills $1.00 and Pro $0.50 per extra 1,000 page views, with a spend cap set at the base price by default.
Against the alternatives, on the prices each vendor prints: Surfer Standard is $99 a month billed yearly, Clearscope Essentials includes unlimited users at a flat monthly price, NeuronWriter Gold is $69 a month or $690 a year, and Scalenut Starter lists at $59 a month before its limited-time discount.

Frase pros and cons
What we like
- The agent can draft and publish to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix on every plan, Starter included.
- Starter holds at its limits, so a solo user never gets an overage bill.
- Content Guard watches 10 to 300 pages for Google decay and drafts the fix for approval.
What could be better
- Article caps of 10, 40 and 100 a month mean heavy months need overage at $4 to $5 an article.
- White-label reports, a client portal and SSO need Enterprise, which is quote only.
Who Frase is for
Frase fits a content lead at a small or mid-size company who needs output, not just a grade. If you publish 10 to 40 articles a month and keep a back catalogue alive, the drafting agent, audits and Content Guard cover most of that loop in one subscription.
It also suits agencies running up to 10 client sites on Scale, which adds exportable client reports. White-label reports and a branded client portal are Enterprise only, so an agency that resells under its own brand should budget for a sales call.
Skip Frase if a writer produces every draft and you only want a scoring editor; NeuronWriter covers that job for less, and Surfer is the more established editor at a similar price. Skip it too if your team is large but output is small, because Clearscope's unlimited users beat paying for each extra Frase seat.

The bottom line
Frase is worth paying for when you want articles shipped and maintained, not only graded. Start with the 7-day trial, count the articles and audits you actually used, then pick the plan whose monthly cap fits with room to spare, billed yearly once you are sure.
Choose Surfer when writers produce the drafts and you want a widely used optimization editor. Choose Clearscope for many writers on one editor without seat fees, NeuronWriter for the lowest entry price, and Scalenut when AI prompt tracking matters as much as the editor.
