What Clearscope's Essentials and Business plans cost in 2026, what the page and draft allowances cover, and how it compares with Surfer, Frase, NeuronWriter and MarketMuse.

TL;DR

Clearscope is worth it in 2026 for a content team that wants a clean optimization editor with unlimited seats, but it is the expensive choice for a solo writer. Essentials costs $129 a month for 50 tracked queries, 50 pages and 20 drafts, and Business costs $399 a month for 300 queries and pages. There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial.

Its strongest point is that every plan includes unlimited users, AI query tracking in ChatGPT and Gemini, and live onboarding, so a team of ten pays the same as a team of one. Its weakest point is value for small output: Surfer's Standard plan is $99 a month billed yearly and NeuronWriter's Gold plan is $57. Pick Clearscope when several editors share one workspace; pick Surfer or NeuronWriter when one person writes most of the content.

Clearscope started as a content grading tool: paste a target query, get the terms and topics top-ranking pages cover, and write until the grade climbs. In 2026 it sells that editor alongside AI visibility features, such as tracking how ChatGPT and Gemini answer the queries you care about and which web searches those assistants run behind the scenes.

This review prices both plans, explains what the page, query and draft allowances mean for a real publishing schedule, and sets Clearscope against four rivals. All prices are in US dollars and were checked on each vendor's own pricing page in October 2026.

Toolradar data: on Toolradar, the software directory we run, Clearscope's entry plan ranks #77 of 79 for price among AI writing tools that publish an entry price, where the median entry plan costs $17.40 a month, as of October 2026. Only two tools in that group start higher, which tells you Clearscope is priced for teams with a content budget, not for hobby blogs.

MarketingShot data: this newsletter reached 35,000+ marketers as of October 18, 2026, with a 32% average open rate.

How we compared: Clearscope against Surfer, Frase, NeuronWriter and MarketMuse on entry price, how much monthly content each entry plan covers, seat limits and AI visibility tracking. Methodology: every figure comes from the vendors' public pricing pages, read in October 2026, and the yearly cost scenarios are our own arithmetic on those figures. We did not test these tools.

What is Clearscope?

Clearscope is a content optimization platform that grades a draft against what already ranks and gets cited for a target query. You enter a query, Clearscope builds a report of the terms, questions and intent the best answers share, and you write or edit until the content grade rises.

Around that core it now bundles topic research (Topic Explorations), an AI drafting assistant (Drafts), monitoring of published pages for traffic decay, internal linking suggestions, and Query Tracking, which records whether ChatGPT and Gemini mention your brand when they answer a query.

How Clearscope works

Plans are sized by four allowances. Tracked queries are the prompts Clearscope watches in AI answers. Pages are the published URLs it monitors. Topic Explorations are research runs, and Drafts are AI-assisted first drafts each month.

Essentials gives 50 tracked queries, 50 pages, 20 Topic Explorations and 20 Drafts a month. Business raises queries and pages to 300 and Topic Explorations to 50, keeps Drafts at 20, and adds a dedicated account manager. Enterprise adds custom credits, custom agreements, crawler whitelisting and single sign-on.

Every plan includes unlimited users, unlimited projects, unlimited sharing and exporting, free live onboarding and priority support. That last point is unusual: Clearscope does not hold support back for the higher tier, so an Essentials customer gets the same access to its team.

Clearscope key features

Content grading editorEssential
The original product: term and topic recommendations drawn from the pages that already answer a query, with a grade that moves as you write. It is the reason most teams buy Clearscope.
Unlimited users on every planEssential
Writers, editors and freelancers can all log in without extra seat fees. For an agency or an in-house team, this often matters more than the headline price.
Query Tracking in ChatGPT and Gemini
Tracks whether and how your brand appears in AI answers for chosen queries, with fan-out data showing the searches assistants trigger. Essentials covers 50 queries, which suits a focused product line.
Page monitoring and internal linking
Watches published pages for decay and suggests internal links. The 50-page cap on Essentials is the first allowance a mature blog outgrows.
AI Drafts
20 AI-assisted drafts a month on both Essentials and Business. Teams that want AI to write at volume will find this allowance small next to Frase's 40 articles on Professional.

Clearscope pricing

Clearscope publishes two self-serve prices, both billed monthly with no minimum contract, and lists no annual discount. That makes the sticker price the real price: there is no cheaper yearly rate to claim, though yearly custom plans can be invoiced. Extra capacity is sold on top: 100 more pages cost $25 a month on Essentials or $15 a month on Business, and 10 more drafts are listed at $50 on Essentials or $20 on Business.

A year of Essentials comes to $1,548, and a year of Business to $4,788. The jump between them buys 250 more tracked queries and pages and 30 more Topic Explorations, but not one extra draft, so Business only pays off for a team monitoring hundreds of URLs or prompts.

A worked comparison for one year at entry level: Clearscope Essentials costs $1,548, Surfer Standard costs $1,188 billed yearly ($1,428 billed monthly), Frase Professional costs $1,236 billed yearly, and NeuronWriter Gold costs $684 billed yearly. Clearscope is the priciest of the four, and it is the only one with no seat limit at that tier: Surfer Standard includes 3 seats and Frase Professional 3 seats, with Frase's extra seats at $29 a month each.

Prices were read on Clearscope's pricing page, Surfer's pricing page, Frase's pricing page, NeuronWriter's pricing page and MarketMuse's pricing page in October 2026.

Who Clearscope is for

Clearscope fits an in-house content team or agency where several writers and editors work from the same briefs and the budget is set per team, not per seat. Unlimited users, live onboarding and support on the entry plan make it easy to roll out to freelancers without buying seats for each.

Skip it if one person writes most of your content, or if you need AI to produce articles at volume. NeuronWriter covers a solo writer for well under half the price, and Frase includes twice as many monthly articles on its Professional plan. If AI search visibility is the main goal, compare the dedicated trackers in our AI search optimization roundup before paying for an editor.

The bottom line

Clearscope earns its price for a team, not for an individual. Unlimited users, onboarding and support on Essentials mean a five-person content team pays the same as one writer, and the editor remains one of the cleanest ways to brief and grade content. Business is harder to justify: it costs about three times Essentials and adds no extra Drafts.

The catch is volume. Fifty pages and fifty tracked queries fill up fast on an established blog, and add-ons push the real bill above the sticker. If you write alone, NeuronWriter or Surfer covers the same core job for less; if you want AI to produce articles, Frase gives more output per dollar.

Does Clearscope have a free plan?

No. Clearscope offers a 14-day free trial of its paid plans and no permanent free tier. MarketMuse is the rival here with a free plan, limited to 1 user and 10 queries a month.

What is the difference between Clearscope Essentials and Business?

Business raises tracked queries and monitored pages from 50 to 300, raises Topic Explorations from 20 to 50 a month, and adds a dedicated account manager. Both plans include 20 AI Drafts a month, unlimited users and priority support.

Does Clearscope track AI search visibility?
