Hotjar Pricing 2026: Plans and Cheaper Alternatives
Hotjar Growth costs $69 a month at 10,000 sessions, or $55.20 paid yearly. Crazy Egg, Lucky Orange, PostHog and Clarity priced at the same volume.

Hotjar's Growth plan costs $69 a month at 10,000 sessions, or $55.20 a month paid yearly by card or PayPal. New Hotjar accounts can no longer be opened, so its plans now sit on Contentsquare's pricing page, where a Free plan covers 200,000 sessions. At 10,000 sessions with every visit recorded, Microsoft Clarity is free, and PostHog is the only paid tool here that costs less than Hotjar, at $25 a month.
The right answer depends on what you need. Hotjar's Free plan already covers 10,000 sessions and 10,000 replays, but it allows one project. You pay for Growth when you need its extra features, so the comparison below prices 10,000 sessions with every visit recorded, billed the way each vendor bills.
What Hotjar costs now
Contentsquare says new Hotjar accounts can no longer be created and sends new users to its own free sign-up. Hotjar's pricing now lives on Contentsquare's pricing page, which lists two Hotjar plans: Free and Growth. Pro and Enterprise on that page are Contentsquare plans with no published price.
Growth is priced by monthly sessions, and the page prints one price for each step:
| Monthly sessions | Growth per month, billed monthly | Per month, paid yearly | Replays included |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7,000 | $49 | $39.20 | 7,000 |
| 10,000 | $69 | $55.20 | 10,000 |
| 15,000 | $99 | $79.20 | 15,000 |
| 25,000 | $139 | $111.20 | 20,000 |
| 45,000 | $219 | $175.20 | 20,000 |
| 100,000 | $409 | $327.20 | 20,000 |
| 200,000 | $739 | $591.20 | 30,000 |
The paid-yearly column is our arithmetic: 20 percent off the monthly price. Hotjar gives that discount when you set up annual payment in the app by card or PayPal. It does not apply to invoices. Monthly plans carry no annual contract.
What the Free plan covers
Hotjar's Free plan lists 200,000 monthly sessions, one project, replays, heatmaps and funnels, error monitoring, basic surveys and a connection to LLM tools. At 10,000 sessions it covers the traffic and the replays. What it leaves out is Growth's three projects, 13 months of session data (two months for replays), zone-based heatmaps and journey analysis. Those are the features that justify a paid plan at this volume.
Heatmap tools at 10,000 sessions
The comparison assumes 10,000 sessions a month with every visit recorded. Crazy Egg counts pageviews, so we assume one pageview per session, the most favorable case for Crazy Egg.
| Tool and plan | Per month | Per year | What limits it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Clarity | Free | Free | No traffic limit; playback kept 30 days |
| Hotjar Free (Contentsquare) | Free | Free | 200,000 sessions, 10,000 replays, one project |
| PostHog, pay-as-you-go | $25 | $300 | 10,000 recordings, first 5,000 free, billed monthly |
| Hotjar Growth, paid yearly | $55.20 | $662.40 | 10,000 replays, 13 months of session data |
| Lucky Orange Grow, paid yearly | $72 | $864 | Up to 10,000 sessions; data kept from 60 days |
| Crazy Egg Plus, paid yearly | $99 | $1,188 | 150,000 pageviews, but only 1,000 recordings |
| Crazy Egg Enterprise, paid yearly | $599 | $7,188 | 10,000 recordings, the only Crazy Egg plan that covers all |
Hotjar Growth costs $828 a year billed monthly, so the yearly payment saves $165.60. PostHog is the cheapest paid option here at $300 a year, but only for recordings. Among paid heatmap tools that record every session, Hotjar Growth paid yearly is the lowest at $662.40 a year. Lucky Orange costs $201.60 a year more.
The ranking flips below 7,000 sessions, because Growth has no tier there. Below 3,500 sessions, Lucky Orange's Build plan, at $32 a month paid yearly, is the cheapest paid plan we found that records every session. Grow covers 3,500 to 10,000 sessions at $72. Hotjar's Free plan still costs $0 at those volumes, so the paid comparison only matters once you need Growth's features.
Toolradar data: Toolradar's heatmap ranking, updated October 2026, evaluated 12 tools, lists 10 of them, and 7 of those 10 have a free plan. The heatmap ranking links to the profiles for Hotjar, Crazy Egg, Lucky Orange, PostHog and Microsoft Clarity.
Crazy Egg: the recording cap sets the price
Crazy Egg's Starter plan costs $29 a month and tracks 5,000 pageviews and 50 recordings. Plus costs $99 a month and tracks 150,000 pageviews and 1,000 recordings. Pro, at $249, allows 5,000 recordings, and Enterprise, at $599, allows 10,000. All plans bill annually and the page says there are no overages, but collection pauses when a monthly limit runs out, until the 1st of the next month.
At one pageview per session, Starter stops at 5,000 sessions. Plus covers 10,000 sessions, but its 1,000 recordings capture a tenth of them. Recording every session takes Enterprise, which costs $6,525.60 a year more than Hotjar Growth at the same volume. Crazy Egg's free plan needs no card and includes web analytics, instant heatmaps, conversion analytics and surveys, with no caps printed.
Lucky Orange: every feature on every plan, no free plan
Lucky Orange sorts plans by session volume and bills yearly. Build costs $32 a month for up to 3,500 sessions, Grow $72 for up to 10,000, Expand $199 from 50,000 and Scale $839 from 300,000. The page says every feature comes on every plan, including session recordings and dynamic heatmaps. The pricing page offers a 7-day trial and lists no free plan. Base data storage starts at 60 days, and each extra website costs $5.
Grow costs $16.80 a month more than Hotjar Growth paid yearly, so it does not undercut Hotjar at 10,000 sessions. PostHog: pay for recordings, not seats
PostHog's free tier covers 5,000 web recordings and 1 million analytics events a month, with no card needed. Above 5,000 recordings, its calculator charges $0.0050 per recording up to 15,000, then $0.0035 up to 50,000. At 10,000 recordings that is 5,000 billed recordings, or $25 a month. Pay-as-you-go bills monthly, has no minimum spend or annual contract, and keeps recordings for 90 days.
The pricing page does not list heatmaps as a billed product, so confirm the heatmap features you need before you switch. For analytics that sit beside heatmaps, see our Google Analytics alternatives.
Microsoft Clarity: free, with short playback retention
Clarity's English homepage says it is free forever with no limits on traffic. Its documentation keeps playback data for 30 days, and heatmap data and labeled or favorited sessions for 9 months. Clarity has no paid tier, so the trade-off is the short playback window, not the bill.
Tools left out of the table
FullStory's paid plans are quote only, so it publishes no list price to rank. Its free plan, FullstoryFree, covers 30,000 sessions a month with 12 months of retention and no card. Mouseflow marks its plans in euros on its pricing page, so we left it out of a dollar table rather than convert it.
Costs the pricing pages leave out
- Invoices. Hotjar's 20 percent annual discount does not apply when you pay by invoice, so ask for the invoice price before you budget.
- Gaps in data. Crazy Egg never charges overages, but recording stops at the monthly limit, so the cheapest plan can leave holes in your sessions.
- Extra sites. Lucky Orange charges $5 per extra website, and Crazy Egg includes unlimited domains.
- Retention. Hotjar Growth keeps session data for 13 months, PostHog keeps recordings for 90 days, Clarity keeps playback for 30 days, and Crazy Egg keeps recordings for six months on Starter and two years from Plus.
How to estimate your own bill
Start with the sessions and recordings you expect each month, then check each vendor's caps. For Hotjar, take the Growth row for your sessions and multiply the monthly price by 0.8 if you pay yearly. For Crazy Egg, check pageviews and recordings separately, since a plan has to cover both. For PostHog, subtract 5,000 recordings and multiply the rest by $0.0050 up to 15,000.
At 15,000 sessions with every visit recorded, Hotjar Growth costs $99 a month, or $79.20 paid yearly. PostHog costs $50 a month for the same recordings.
