Postscript Review 2026: SMS Pricing for Shopify Stores

What Postscript's four SMS plans and its AI bundle cost, the send volumes where each upgrade pays for itself, and how it stacks up against Attentive, Klaviyo, Omnisend and SimpleTexting.

TL;DR

Postscript is worth it in 2026 for Shopify stores that treat SMS as a revenue channel, and most of them should start on the cheapest plan. Starter costs $0 a month with a $49 monthly minimum spend and $0.009 per SMS. Growth is $100 a month at $0.008 per SMS, Professional is $500 a month at $0.007, and Enterprise is quoted. Carrier fees are passed through at cost, and no contract is required.

The catch: Growth only beats Starter on price once you send about 100,000 texts a month, so the upgrade buys features (unlimited keywords, live chat support) rather than savings for most stores. The AI products sit in a separate $699-a-month plan. Closest alternatives: Attentive, Klaviyo, Omnisend and SimpleTexting.

Postscript prices SMS like a utility: a plan fee plus a rate per message. That makes it cheap to start, since the entry plan has no monthly fee, and predictable to scale, because every tier is a simple trade between a higher fixed fee and a lower per-text rate.

The interesting question is not what Postscript costs but at what volume each upgrade starts to pay, and this review answers it with arithmetic on the published rates.

This page is for ecommerce marketers and founders at Shopify brands deciding whether to add SMS, or whether to move off Klaviyo's or Attentive's texting.

Prices were read on Postscript's pricing page on October 18, 2026, and set against the pricing pages of Attentive, Klaviyo, Omnisend and SimpleTexting the same day. We run no test lab, so nothing here describes hands-on results.

For the record, Dupple's newsletters, MarketingShot included, are sent on beehiiv, not on any platform reviewed here.

Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluates 25 SMS marketing tools as of October 2026, and its Postscript profile places Postscript first by user rating among the 20 tools in that category with 20 or more reviews. That is a position built from public review counts, not a score of ours.

What is Postscript?

Postscript is an SMS marketing platform built for Shopify stores. It sends text campaigns and automated flows (welcome, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase) to subscribers you collect through popups, keywords and checkout opt-ins.

Stores outside Shopify can add a software development kit to their own site code, Postscript's FAQ says, and get desktop and mobile popups plus the checkout opt-in box. The product is still designed around Shopify data, so non-Shopify stores give up much of what they pay for.

Every plan includes campaigns, automations, unlimited segments, a dedicated toll-free number and a branded short-link subdomain. Postscript also says its features are hard-wired to follow TCPA and carrier rules, which matters because texting without proper consent is where US merchants get sued, not where they lose a few dollars.

Email is on the way rather than live: the pricing page has a waitlist for Postscript email, pitched at 20 to 30% below legacy providers, with no price yet. Until it ships, a store still runs a separate email platform next to Postscript and pays for two tools.

How Postscript works

You install the Shopify app, set up a popup or a checkout checkbox to collect opt-ins, then switch on prebuilt flows. Campaigns go to segments built from order history and browsing, and each text is billed at your plan's rate.

An SMS holds 160 characters without emojis and 70 with one, so an emoji in a long message can quietly turn one billed text into two or three.

MMS costs five times the SMS rate on Starter. On that plan an MMS is $0.045; Growth charges $0.03 and Professional $0.024. A brand that sends product images in most campaigns should price its plan on MMS volume, not SMS.

Carrier surcharges come on top of every message and vary by carrier; Postscript passes them through without a markup and itemizes them on the invoice.

The number you send from also changes the bill. A toll-free number comes free with every plan, while a dedicated short code costs $750 a month through the carriers, which Postscript bills without a markup. That is $9,000 a year, so a short code makes sense only for brands sending at a volume where throughput and recognition matter.

The free trial comes with a usage credit for the first 30 days. Postscript says it does not require a contract, offers one as an option, and lets you downgrade whenever needed. Support runs by live chat Monday to Friday, 6am to 5pm Pacific, and by email.

Postscript pricing

Postscript publishes four SMS plans on Postscript's pricing page, read on October 18, 2026; the table below has every rate. Carrier fees come on top and are passed through at cost, and the page shows no annual discount.

The upgrade math favors Starter for most stores. Growth adds a fixed monthly fee and saves $0.001 per SMS, so the two plans cost the same at 100,000 texts a month ($900 each) and Growth only wins above that. Professional costs $400 more than Growth and saves another $0.001, so it breaks even with Growth at 400,000 texts ($3,300 each).

On MMS the gap closes faster: Growth beats Starter from about 6,700 MMS a month, and Professional beats Growth from about 66,700.

A worked example, computed from those rates. A store sending 60,000 SMS a month (15,000 subscribers, four texts each) pays $540 on Starter, $580 on Growth and $920 on Professional, before carrier fees.

Over a year, that is $6,480 on Starter, so the extra $480 a year for Growth is the price of unlimited keywords and live chat support, not a saving. At the low end, the Starter minimum spend covers about 5,400 texts, so a small list pays that floor even in a quiet month.

Our SMS marketing cost breakdown runs other volumes across more vendors.

The AI plan is a separate line: $699 a month, or $8,388 a year, with per-message rates from $0.003 to $0.30 depending on the product and message type. The pricing page does not say whether it replaces or sits on top of an SMS plan, so ask before you budget for it.

Against the field, Attentive publishes no list price and quotes by message volume, list size and channels.

Omnisend sells SMS credits at rates that fall with volume, down to $0.007 per text on purchases of $10,000 and up, alongside a Pro plan listed at $59 a month for 2,500 contacts. SimpleTexting charges $29 for 500 credits plus $10 a month for a local number.

Klaviyo has a free plan with $5 of mobile messages a month; for its paid tiers, check the current price on Klaviyo's site, or see our Klaviyo pricing breakdown.

Postscript pros and cons

What we like

  • Starter has no monthly fee and still includes campaigns, flows, unlimited segments and a toll-free number.
  • Rates are published and carrier fees are passed through at cost, with no contract required.
  • A free trial with a usage credit for the first 30 days.

What could be better

  • Growth only beats Starter on price above about 100,000 texts a month.
  • MMS costs five times the SMS rate on Starter, and a short code adds $750 a month.
  • Email is still a waitlist, so you need a second platform for it.

Who Postscript is for

Postscript fits Shopify brands that want SMS as a real revenue channel and send between a few thousand and roughly 100,000 texts a month. In that band, Starter is both the cheapest plan and a complete one: campaigns, flows, unlimited segments and a toll-free number, with no monthly fee.

A growing brand moves to Growth for unlimited opt-in keywords and live chat support, and to Professional when it needs the API or deeper analytics.

It also suits brands leaving an enterprise contract. Postscript prints its rates and does not require a contract, which is the opposite of Attentive's quote-only model.

Our best SMS marketing software ranking and the best email marketing for ecommerce list cover what to pair it with.

It is a weaker fit in three cases. A store that wants email and SMS on one bill should look at Klaviyo or Omnisend; our Klaviyo review, our Omnisend review and cheaper Klaviyo alternatives cover that choice.

A business outside ecommerce (a gym, a clinic, a local service) gets more from a general texting tool; our SimpleTexting review is the place to start.

And a store not on Shopify can use the SDK, but loses the native data that makes Postscript's segments worth paying for; Omnisend alternatives lists platforms that connect to WooCommerce and BigCommerce.

The bottom line

Postscript is a good buy for a Shopify brand that wants SMS without a contract or a sales call. The rates are on the page, the entry plan has no fee, and the published numbers show Starter is the cheapest tier until about 100,000 texts a month.

Upgrade to Growth or Professional for keywords, support, the API and analytics, and budget the AI plan and any short code as separate lines.

Pick something else when you want email and SMS in one tool or are not on Shopify. Klaviyo and Omnisend run both channels in one account, Attentive suits brands buying an enterprise package, and SimpleTexting fits local businesses that text customers without a store.

Methodology: plan fees, per-message rates, the AI plan, number costs and trial terms were read on Postscript's pricing page on October 18, 2026, along with the pricing pages of Attentive, Klaviyo, Omnisend and SimpleTexting.

Break-even volumes, annual totals and the 60,000-text example are our arithmetic on those published rates, before carrier fees, which Postscript does not print. The Toolradar figures come from its SMS marketing category, October 2026.

We run no test lab and give no star rating.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Postscript cost in 2026?

Postscript's Starter plan costs $0 a month with a $49 monthly minimum spend and $0.009 per SMS. Growth costs $100 a month at $0.008 per SMS, Professional $500 a month at $0.007, and Enterprise is quoted. Carrier fees are added at cost. The separate AI plan is $699 a month. Prices were read on Postscript's pricing page on October 18, 2026.

Is Postscript worth it for a small Shopify store?

Usually yes, on Starter. It has no monthly fee, includes campaigns, flows and unlimited segments, and its minimum spend covers about 5,400 texts at the Starter rate. A store sending fewer texts than that still pays the full minimum, so very small lists pay a few cents more per text than the headline rate.

When should I upgrade from Starter to Growth?

On price alone, only above about 100,000 SMS a month, where Growth's $0.001 lower rate covers its monthly fee. Below that, upgrade for features: unlimited opt-in keywords and live chat and email support. Brands sending many MMS reach the break-even sooner, at about 6,700 MMS a month.

Does Postscript have a free trial or a contract?

The free trial gives a $100 credit to use in your first 30 days. Postscript says it offers contracts as an option but does not require one, and you can downgrade whenever needed under its usage pricing.

Does Postscript work without Shopify?

It is built for Shopify, but Postscript's FAQ says merchants on other platforms can add its SDK to their own site code, which brings desktop and mobile popups and the checkout opt-in. Stores on WooCommerce or BigCommerce often prefer a platform with a native integration, such as Klaviyo or Omnisend.

Postscript vs Attentive: which is cheaper?

Attentive publishes no list price, so the only way to compare is to get its quote and set it against Postscript's published per-text rates on each tier, plus carrier fees. Postscript also does not require a contract.
