TL;DR

Constant Contact is worth it in 2026 for a small business that sends simple campaigns from a single login and has no automation needs. Lite starts at $12 a month, or $10.20 billed annually, and it covers one user and one automation template. The vendor offers no free plan, and its 30-day money-back guarantee stands in for one.

Once you need a second user or a second automation template, Standard at $35 a month ($29.75 billed annually) is the real step up. If you need a free start, Mailchimp (free up to 250 contacts), Brevo (300 emails a day) and Kit (free up to 10,000 subscribers) are the places to begin. Prices as of October 2026.

Constant Contact is worth it in 2026 for a solo sender on a small list with no automation needs. Its Lite plan allows one user and one automation template, and the vendor has no free plan, while Mailchimp, Brevo and Kit each offer one.

Whether the paid tiers earn their price depends on list size and on how many people log in.

Toolradar data: We evaluated 107 email marketing tools in October 2026, and 57 of the 106 we rank have a free plan.

Constant Contact is one of the paid-only tools in that set, so the free-plan question is the first filter, before features. For the wider field, see our best email marketing software ranking.

What is Constant Contact?

Constant Contact is an email marketing platform for small businesses. It runs campaigns, templates, contact lists and automation templates, with SMS as a paid add-on. Its plan price is set by how many contacts you keep and how many emails you send, so the starting price is a floor, not a quote for your list.

How Constant Contact works

Pick a plan by your contact count, then build campaigns from the templates it includes. Lite includes basic templates, a marketing calendar and social posting. Standard adds A/B testing, contact segmentation and a subject line assistant.

Premium adds revenue reporting, a Google Ads integration and custom automation. Each step up changes what you can build, and the user count and automation templates set the real limit.

Constant Contact key features

Plan limitsEssential
Lite allows 1 user and 1 automation template. Standard allows 3 users and 3 templates. Premium allows unlimited users and custom automation.
Send allowanceEssential
Monthly sends are 10 times the contact count on Lite, 12 times on Standard and 24 times on Premium. Each send above the allowance costs $0.002, so 1,000 extra sends add $2.
Annual billing
Billing annually takes 15% off every tier, so the annual rate is 85% of the monthly price in the table.
A/B testing and segmentation
Standard adds A/B testing, contact segmentation and a subject line assistant. Lite has none of the three on the plan list.
SMS add-on
SMS is an add-on from $10 a month on Lite and Standard, so the text channel adds a second line to the bill.
Premium reporting and ads
Premium adds revenue reporting and a Google Ads integration, which suits a team tying email to paid campaigns.

Constant Contact pricing

Constant Contact's three plans start at $12, $35 and $80 a month. Annual billing takes 15% off each one: $10.20, $29.75 and $68 a month. The vendor says its plan price is based on the number of contacts and email sends, so the starting figure is a floor.

The price depends on your exact contact count, so run your own list size before you commit.

The arithmetic on the starting prices: Lite costs $144 a year paid monthly and $122.40 billed annually, a saving of $21.60. Standard costs $420 a year monthly and $357 billed annually, a saving of $63. Premium costs $960 a year monthly and $816 billed annually, a saving of $144.

Gotchas: the one-user cap on Lite is the first trap, since a second person pushes you to the next tier up. Overage is $0.002 per send above the monthly allowance, so a mostly unengaged list still pays for every send. SMS is extra, from $10 a month on Lite and Standard.

Methodology: we took the plan prices, user counts and send allowances from Constant Contact's pricing page as read in October 2026, and cross-checked them against Toolradar's pricing record for the same month. The alternatives' prices come from their own pricing pages or the same Toolradar record, also October 2026. We have not tested the software for this page.

Constant Contact pros and cons

What we like

  • Standard adds A/B testing, contact segmentation and a subject line assistant, the first tier that offers them.
  • Annual billing takes 15% off every tier.
  • A 30-day money-back guarantee gives you a refund window if the plan does not fit.

What could be better

  • No free plan. Five of the six direct competitors Toolradar tracks offer one, and Constant Contact does not.
  • Lite allows one user and one automation template, so a second team member pushes you to the next tier.

Who Constant Contact is for

Constant Contact fits a solo owner sending one newsletter or promotion a week to a list under 500 contacts, who wants a simple editor and does not need a free tier.

Solo local businesses that send occasional offers and want one bill for email and SMS fit here too, since SMS starts at $10 a month on Lite and Standard.

Who should look elsewhere: a second person in the account hits the Lite seat cap and needs Standard, which covers three users, so budget for that tier from day one.

Anyone building multi-step journeys gets one automation template on Lite and three on Standard, which makes ActiveCampaign the better fit.

A brand that needs a free start should test Mailchimp, Brevo or Kit first, or read our free email marketing software ranking.

The bottom line

Constant Contact is worth it in 2026 for a solo sender who runs simple campaigns on a list that stays inside the Lite limits. Lite is a fair price for that job, and billing annually lowers it. It stops being good value the moment you need a second user, more than one automation template, or a free tier to test with.

For a free start, Mailchimp, Brevo or Kit; for deeper automation at a similar entry price, ActiveCampaign; for the cheapest paid starting price in this set, Brevo. Compare the bill at your exact contact count before you choose, because the starting prices here are not quotes for your list.

If leaving Mailchimp is the real question, see the full Mailchimp alternatives breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Constant Contact cost in 2026?
Constant Contact starts at $12 a month on Lite, $35 on Standard and $80 on Premium, with annual billing at $10.20, $29.75 and $68 a month. The plan price is based on your contact count and email sends, so the starting figure is a floor, not a quote for your list. These are the prices as read in October 2026.
Does Constant Contact have a free plan?
No. Constant Contact offers no free plan, and its 30-day money-back guarantee is the refund window instead. Mailchimp's free plan covers up to 250 contacts, and Kit's free Newsletter plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers.
Is Constant Contact worth it in 2026?
Yes for a solo sender on a small list who wants simple campaigns and no automation. It is weak value for automation: Lite has one automation template, Standard has three, and Premium adds custom automation at $80 a month. Compare the bill at your own list size before you buy.
How many users and automations does the Lite plan include?
Lite includes one user and one automation template, with monthly sends of 10 times your contact count. A second user moves you to Standard, which allows three users and three automation templates.
Is Constant Contact cheaper than Mailchimp?
On starting prices, Constant Contact Lite costs a dollar less than Mailchimp Essentials, which is quoted at $13 for 12 months. Mailchimp also has a free plan up to 250 contacts, which Constant Contact does not. Mailchimp's pricing page names no contact count next to its paid prices, so compare both at your own list size.
