👑 Meta set to overtake Google in digital ad revenue
LINK
|
- Meta is forecast to pass Google in digital ad revenue for the first time in 2026, both in the U.S. and globally, according to predictions from Emarketer.
- Meta's net worldwide ad revenue is expected to reach $243.46 billion this year, claiming 26.8% of global ad spending, while Google is predicted to hold 26.4% at $239.54 billion.
- Increased automation has improved ad performance on Facebook, Instagram, and Reels, helping Meta achieve a 24.1% overall growth rate in 2026 compared to Google's 11.9%.

🔧 Google simplifies Analytics and Ads consent rules
LINK
|
- Google announced plans to consolidate data controls between Google Analytics and Google Ads, removing redundant settings so each platform exclusively manages its own data rather than overlapping across both systems.
- Starting June 15, 2026, the Google Signals setting in Google Analytics will no longer control Google Ads cookie and ID collection, with Consent Mode in Google Ads becoming the single control for that data.
- Ads personalization changes are expected later in 2026, and once a Google Analytics property is linked to Google Ads, the Consent Mode ad_personalization setting will exclusively govern whether shared data is used for personalization.

🚫 Google will now punish websites that hijack the back button
LINK
|
- Google announced it will start penalizing websites that hijack the browser's back button, a technique that traps users in unwanted pages and ads when they try to navigate away.
- Site owners face a June 15th deadline to remove any malicious script responsible for back button hijacking, or their pages will be demoted in Google's search rankings.
- Google traced user complaints about this deceptive technique back to 2013, and forums like Hacker News flagged LinkedIn, Reddit, Amazon, and eBay as examples of sites engaging in the practice.

🎬 TikTok adds AI video generation to Symphony ad toolkit
LINK
|
- TikTok has integrated ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 video generation model into its Symphony ad creation toolkit, giving advertisers a new AI-powered option for producing video ads on the platform.
- Seedance 2.0 improves product consistency across video segments with fewer manual corrections and delivers smoother, more natural motion, which TikTok says reduces the time spent fixing outputs before scaling campaigns.
- The model was first made available within CapCut in selected markets last month, and advertisers can input text, images, or reference clips to generate polished video with audio that is perfectly in sync.

📍 Apple Maps ads inch closer to release
LINK
|
- Apple appears to be moving closer to launching ads inside Apple Maps, with a second iOS 26.5 developer beta adding a new splash screen branded under "Apple Ads" that appears when users open the app.
- A new "Suggested Places" feature in Apple Maps will show trending nearby locations, recent searches, and ads for specific locations tagged for transparency, with placement likely tied to how much a venue has spent.
- The ads shown in Suggested Places will be local and restricted to a reasonable search radius, meaning promoted locations from across town will not appear in neighborhood-level search results or suggestions for nearby spots.
