🔍 Bing explains search indexing vs grounding indexing
LINK
|
- Microsoft Bing published a blog post breaking down how indexing for traditional Search differs from indexing for Grounding, the process that feeds AI-generated answers.
- Authors Krishna Madhavan, Knut Risvik, and Meenaz Merchant wrote that search indexing helps humans decide what to read, while grounding indexing helps AI systems decide what to say, requiring different infrastructure.
- The team stated that grounding does not replace search but adds an optimization layer on the same crawlers and quality signals, shifting the unit of value from documents to evidence and measuring strength of evidence over likelihood of relevance.

🛒 Google's Universal Commerce Protocol expands to main SERP
LINK
|
- Google has extended its Universal Commerce Protocol checkout to the main search results page, letting signed-in shoppers complete purchases through a "Buy" button without leaving the SERP or visiting the retailer's site.
- Launched in January 2026 with partners including Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target, and Walmart, UCP-powered checkout was previously limited to AI Mode and the Gemini App before this SERP rollout.
- The "Buy" button currently appears only on Wayfair product listings, and sellers wanting in need a Google Merchant Center account with approved free listings, a Google Pay & Wallet Console account, and three REST endpoints set up.

📱 Reddit blocks mobile web users in app push test
LINK
|
- Reddit is running a test that blocks mobile web users from browsing the site, showing a persistent overlay that tells them to download the app with no way to close or skip the prompt.
- The test targets a small group of frequent logged-out mobile visitors, and CEO Steve Huffman said on the Q1 2026 earnings call that more app users drive engagement, personalization, and monetization.
- Reddit has 121 million daily actives and relies mostly on ad revenue, though search traffic could suffer, and workarounds like old.reddit.com, desktop site requests, or clearing cookies still bypass the block.

📢 X rebuilds Ads Manager with AI
LINK
|
- X has started a phased rollout of a rebuilt Ads Manager in April 2026, calling it the most ambitious ad overhaul in its 20-year history and centering the redesign on simplicity, advertiser control, and AI-powered performance.
- The new ad stack uses AI-driven retrieval and ranking systems that read user behavior and platform context in real time, serving contextual and semantic ads around live conversations, breaking trends, and cultural moments instead of profile data alone.
- Monique Pintarelli, Head of Global Advertising at xAI, described the project as a full-stack reset rather than an incremental update, with a cleaner interface, faster optimization, more precise targeting, and regular feature drops planned over coming months.
