How To Create a Landing Page with WordPress In 5 Minutes

How To Create a Landing Page with WordPress In 5 Minutes

If you are here, you are probably looking for a way to build your landing pages faster, smarter and without paying for somebody else to do the work for you.

If so, you are in the right place, because today I will teach you how to create a landing page in WordPress in about 5 minutes and without writing a single line of code.

Why do you need a landing page?

As an internet marketer, you will always need to build landing pages (opt-in pages, squeeze pages, sales pages, joint venture pages, etc.) whether you like it or not.

Ad networks don’t like direct linking

Some of the ad networks will require you to use your own landing page instead of direct linking to a product’s sales page. Otherwise, your ads will not be approved.

The best example I can give you is probably Google Adwords, which doesn’t allow affiliate links, while they are ok with the advertisers that send their traffic to a landing page.

You have more control over your pages

Another reason why you’ll want to build your own landing page is that you have more control over a landing page, unlike the sales page of the product you are promoting.

With your own pages, you can place your tracking codes, you can add a retargeting pixel, you can split test multiple landing pages to see which one of them is converting better and so on.

Uniqueness

Your own landing page will differentiate you from the rest of the affiliates sending traffic to the same sales page. A good landing page it’s your way of standing out from the crowd and increase your sales.

A custom landing page will allow you to approach the promotion from a unique angle and get better conversions.

Building your email list

Another priceless advantage of sending your traffic to a landing page instead of direct linking is that you can also build your email list.

Therefore, instead of sending all your traffic directly to a sales page and taking the risk of not getting any conversions the first time a visitor sees the product, you can give a good reason for people to opt-in to your email list and you can promote the product to them multiple times in the follow-up emails.

After all, it’s a proven fact that most of the people will not purchase a product the very first time they see it, and they will usually need 5 to 7 times (or more) for the people to make the decision of actually buying the product.

Product creator and seller

If you are a product creator, you will also need to build sales pages, joint venture pages, and other types of pages, so you can’t run from building landing pages no matter what.

I hope the arguments listed above are enough to give you a better understanding of why the landing pages play such a vital role in the career of an internet marketer.

Isn’t simpler to outsource tha landing page creation process?

Why would you want to create your landing pages by yourself instead of paying someone else to do the work for you?

There’s a simple answer to that.

Because it can become a very expensive task to pay a developer to build your every single landing page.

Let’s take a look on Freelancer.com to the prices of a few projects that require the creation of a landing page.

freelancer landing page project 1

freelancer landing page project 2

freelancer landing page project 3

I don’t know about you, but paying someone that kind of money to build me a landing page seems quite pricey to me (and keep in mind the prices are displayed in Euros, not in US Dollar).

It’s true that there are also other places where you can find people to create your landing pages for lower prices, but if you need multiple pages created, even if you pay $10 per piece, that’s still not very cheap.

Besides that, even if your designer comes up with the best-looking landing page, it’s not guaranteed to convert well when you send traffic to it.

In fact, most of the times, the customer mindset is very different than yours and the pages you think will convert the best, in fact, can convert at the lowest rate. That’s the split testing for and why the big names in the internet marketing industry tell you always to try different variations of your pages.

And in addition to that, it will also take some time till the freelancers finish designing your pages, will require you to send them the exactly wanted features, and very often, you will need to ask them to make changes when your vision doesn’t match with theirs.

Not to mention the fact that there will be cases when you find “designers” who are not “real” designers and they will not reach the quality level wanted for your project.

Some designers will also charge you more to make your landing pages responsive (responsive means that a page will also look good on the mobile devices, tablets, and various screen sizes).

In other words, even if you choose to pay someone to create your pages, you are not exempt from work.

I think I scared you enough with all what was said above, but don’t worry, the landing page creation process doesn’t have to be that much painful. In fact, it can be very fast and even quite fun.

So, let me now teach you how to create a landing page and the landing page software I use to build my own landing pages in minutes.

The Tools You’ll Need

Despite the fact that I’m a web designer, and I have the needed programming skills to create my landing pages from scratch, I don’t always have the time to write all the code. I’m also not a big fan of reinventing the wheel when there are already easier and faster alternatives to get the work done.

  1. A WordPress installation
  2. A WordPress plugin called Instabuilder

WordPress is an open source content management system, which can be downloaded and used 100% for free. It doesn’t cost you anything, is very useful and highly customizable with themes and plugins.

There are a bunch of free themes and plugins you can find on the official WordPress website.

I use WordPress for almost every site I create (this blog you are reading right now is also based on WordPress) 🙂

Instabuilder is a WordPress plugin that gives WordPress the power of creating astonishing landing pages, on top of the already WordPress amazing features. It’s a premium plugin, but from my point of view, it worth every penny.

Instabuilder adds to the WordPress pages a drag & drop visual editor that allows you to quickly put together simple or complex pages in minutes, without writing a single line of code. The generated pages are fully responsive and your pages will look great on any device, including mobile phones.

Why Instabuilder instead a page builder service?

You probably know already that there are a few other online services with a similar purpose, so why would you use Instabuilder instead of them?

The major difference between Instabuilder and the rest of the companies specialized in providing landing page building services is that those companies will require you to pay a monthly fee in exchange for their tools, while the prices are often far from being cheap.

Instabuilder it’s a one-time payment and with the “Unlimited license,” ($97) you can use Instabuilder for an unlimited number of personal websites. For a landing page creation service, you would normally have to pay almost the price of Instabuilder in a single month. That is pretty high, especially for the people who are just starting out or on a low budget.

Instabuilder Review and Features

The first version of Instabuilder has been launched a few years ago. I think the first version was launched in 2013, but I’m not sure if that’s 100% correct.

Anyways, Instabuilder is at the time I’m writing this article at the 2.1.6 version.

A lot of improvements were made and new features were added to Instabuilder 2.0+, resulting in a landing page builder software that can drastically reduce the time needed to create your landing pages and also removing the costs involved in outsourcing this task.

I purchased the Unlimited License, since the price difference between the 3-Site License and the Unlimited License is not too much and I also wanted to be able to use the Instabuilder 2.0 plugin for an unlimited number of my websites.

instabuilder 2.0 license type

I’m very pleased with the number of training video and the quality of the documentation inside the members’ area and regardless your previous experience with WordPress, you should have no problems installing the plugin.

There is a user manual in PDF format and a lot of short videos covering various aspects of the plugin and how to achieve different tasks.

Below are the titles of the training videos found inside the members’ area.

Instabuilder in action

I’m sure you are anxious to see Instabuilder in action, so here’s a short video that will take you through the features and the page building process.

With Instabuilder, you can basically do exactly what a programmer can do, without writing a single line of code and in a much shorter time. You can cut the costs of outsourcing the process and you have the full control over your pages.

      Hi Clay,

      Thank you for your opinion.
Indeed, landing pages are a key element of an internet marketer. You will need them as an affiliate, as a product seller, for building an email list and every time you need to promote something.

      Regards,
      Marius
